In Memory of Karel Mitchael Persad
Mitchael was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex at the age of 11 months. This condition for Mitchael impacted his overall health with uncontrolled epilepsy, tumor growths in multiple organs, and a cognitive disability. Although very rare with TSC, Mitchael developed renal cell carcinoma which resulted in a loss of one of his kidneys. After 34 years of battling the complication related to this disorder, Mitchael passed away peacefully on January 10, 2022.
Attending Camp Carpe Diem at Camp John Marc was an incredible experience for our whole family. As a family, we had opportunities to laugh, explore new activities, and just be together without worry and stress. The fantastic staff at Camp John Marc took care of most needs. This camp connected us with other families experiencing similar joys and hardships. The camp even hosted our dedicated doctors, so they could also appreciate Mitchael in a carefree environment.
Each year we left counting down the days until we would be returning to the next TSC camp. Every year and adventure was different. If you feel compelled, please donate in Mitchael’s honor. This camp was dear to our family. We wish to provide continued opportunities for families with a child with a disability to attend the amazing experience that is Camp John Marc.
